Education

Senior Government Major and Human Rights and Genocide Minor at Claremont McKenna College - BA May 2015. GPA: 3.83/4.00. I will be attending Harvard Graduate School of Education Fall 2015 to study Education Policy and Management.

Experience

I have been tutoring since I was 11 and have never stopped. Most recently, I was a teacher assistant at a private elementary and pre-school where I worked with toddlers in the morning and helped 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders with their math, writing, history, science, etc. work. Similarly, I tutored at a low-income high school in an after school program where we worked on chemistry, physics, and biology (including AP and honors), algebra 2, pre-calculus, history, college personal statements, SAT prep, and so on. I love tutoring because one of my favorite feelings is when a student has an "a-ha" moment, where something that had been challenging a student clicks into place. It is a blast to work with kids and teenagers, I love to watch them excel, gain self-confidence, and prepare for the future. This past summer I worked as a research and evaluation intern at WestEd, an education consulting firm. This internship taught me about Common Core requirements, how to discover obstacles that children face, and implementing various teaching methods to help a student understand a topic, rather than just pushing a single way to teach a subject matter. In addition, in the fall of 2013, I interned for the White House Initiative on American Indian and Alaska Native Education. As a policy analyst, I worked with executive directors and federal government staff to devise more effective education policies. I love education, I think it is the foundation to finding your happiness. Helping students gain that insight into their passions is one of my favorite jobs!

Hobbies

I swam on the varsity collegiate team, where my teammates and I won our championship competition every year. I am still obsessed with swimming, it is so much fun, but now I prefer to play in the pool. I also love spending time with my friends, exploring the city, watching movies, and trying new restaurants. I am very outgoing, enthusiastic, and social. I really enjoy meeting new people and learning about their interests and the ways they think.
