Experience
I graduated from Brown University, where I received B.A. in Global Development Studies. Within my major, I chose to focus specifically on health and gender. I intend to start a master's program related to Social Work and Public Health by September 2015.As a university student, I volunteered as a tutor and worked as a mentor in an afterschool program geared toward helping inner-city residents in Rhode Island. As a tutor, I taught elementary children, most of whom didn't speak English as a first language. In addition, I spent a summer in Kenya where I also worked after school, assisting with homework and helping students prepare for exams. While I feel confident in tutoring a variety of subjects, I enjoy tutoring English and social studies the most. English and history were among my favorite subjects to study when I was a student. I really love being able to see the students learn, and it's a very rewarding feeling to know that I am actually helping make a difference. I feel that being a teacher isn't only about having your students complete assignments, but about encouraging critical thinking when they approach a problem. Knowing when to challenge students and push them to the next level is an important quality for a teacher to have.
