Experience
As a high school student I had already become a dedicated teacher of my peers, tutoring in algebra, calculus, physics, chemistry, biology, and Spanish. I helped provide group tutoring sessions at the elementary, intermediate, and middle school levels (grades 1-8). At MIT I worked as a teaching assistant in Classical Mechanics and Electricity and Magnetism. My responsibilities included guiding students through in-class group problems, answering questions related to coursework, and grading homework assignments. I also worked as a para-educator in the Summer Session Program at the Orange-Ulster Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES), which provides career-focused and special needs education. There, I managed the intensive physical and emotional needs of students ages 16-21 who required individualized attention to accommodate their varying clinical problems and behavioral issues. I found it to be a highly rewarding experience. I was a research assistant at the MIT Center for Theoretical Physics, working under Dr. Alan Guth as part of the Density Perturbations Group. We developed multi-field models of cosmic inflation. I have worked as an independent tutor with more than 20 students, grades 5-12 and college level, in math, physics, chemistry, and SAT prep. I strive to understand my students' needs so I can prepare instructive examples that take into account the unique learning style of each individual. In doing so, I hope each student develops problem solving skills pertinent to the real world and an appreciation for the relevance of the material they learn in math and science.
