Experience

I have broad tutoring, teaching, and mentoring experience. I have experience tutoring (2.5 years), so I am familiar with working with students one-on-one and in small groups. The students I tutored frequently scored at the top of their class. I was lucky enough to mentor five high school students and 14 undergraduate students as research volunteers over the past 5 years. Through this experience, I have learned how to develop short research projects for my students, and how to train students, give them ongoing support, and help them develop lab skills. I also have experience working as a teaching assistant for biology and chemistry courses and volunteering as a science mentor at a local high school, so I have some experience developing lessons and working with a classroom of students, and I have also attended some pedagogy seminars that discuss these topics. Finally, I also have experience presenting my research to colleagues and the public, which has helped me develop the skills to distill a topic to its most essential elements and clearly communicate the key points. I will be able to use these experiences to enrich my tutoring and become an effective tutor.
