Experience

High School English Teacher - 18 years Experience With students I explore the myriad lenses through which we can both interpret and begin to create our own works of literature. I arrange my writing classes thematically, closely linking material to texts studied in class to help students develop strong, well informed voices. Together we explore a wide range of relevant and engaging themes, from gender to representation of war. I have watched students grow from having little writing ability or interest, into skilled and confident advocates for their passions. As a testament to the profound impact that this approach has had on students, alumni from graduating classes that I taught have been accepted into Harvard, Stanford, Middlebury, Brown, University of British Columbia, School of Oriental and African Studies in London, to name but a few. I still receive emails from these students, excited to show me how well prepared they were for their college classes due to the work we did in my class.

I am specifically interested in helping students to discover their own passions and motivations in life. I try to give students the tools to create their own success, rather than simply feeding them the knowledge they require to pass a test. I am also able to help students with college applications and essay writing. I am an avid reader and photographer. I also enjoy cycling when I can.
