Experience

My first job was at the Smithsonian Institution museum in Washington, D.C. I created a study tour video by utilizing the photography archives of National Geographic along with the Smithsonian's archive. Later, I became an Intellectual Property law Paralegal (Copyright, Trademark, Patent, and Entertainment law) and attended law school and worked at major law firms and companies in Boston, Massachusetts for nearly twenty years. TUTOR/TEACHER: (FOR ONLINE) LAW: Proofreading, editing, legal writing, research, and copyright registration comprise fundamental building blocks. I have been teaching and tutoring English/ESL to young learners (K-12) and adults for nearly five years in the USA and abroad having married an Englishman who is an English/ESL educator. As a volunteer in a foreign country, I created and managed a female adult ESL program. ENGLISH: Spelling, grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, and literature are primary components. ESL (ENGLISH-AS-A-SECOND-LANGUAGE): Interactive TPR, phonics, speaking (singing), reading and writing are focal methods and techniques utilized. PHILOSOPHY: "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today." (Malcolm X) "The goal of education is not to increase the amount of knowledge but to create the possibilities for a child to invent and discover, to create men who are capable of doing new things." (Jean Piaget) APPROACH: Patience, listening, emotional intelligence, open-mindedness, understanding, compassion, encouragement, good manners, honesty, integrity, equality, fairness and positive feedback go the distance. Helping students learn and achieve their goals is a rewarding endeavor. Building self-esteem, confidence, and empowerment are important! Creativity aids in reaching learning objectives. AVAILABILITY: If I can be of help and you would like my tutoring assistance, I can provide a one-time free online consultation to meet you, to outline your goals, and to prepare for your tutoring session(s) going forward. If you have any inquiries, please reply to this note. I look forward to meeting you!
