ExperienceI am a passionate and positive tutor with a strong background in the ways in which young people interact with texts. My greatest strengths are in English literature, essay writing, grammar, and creative writing, though I can also teach social studies and art history. I have spent the last few months as a private English teacher for a home schooled eighth grader, which has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. We covered literature, vocabulary, nonfiction analysis, creative writing, five paragraph essays, and grammar. I have also been a teaching assistant for both a college lit course and an elementary school art camp, and I have been a "reading buddy" for elementary school students. I believe that my background in children's literature serves me extremely well in education, for not only have I studied the books that young students read, I also respect both the literature and the students. I love teaching very much, and hope to make it a career.
HobbiesI am very lucky - my hobbies and my schoolwork are the same things! I love writing fiction, reading fiction, and analyzing fiction. If your child is struggling with the actual English coursework but loves stories, I can definitely be of service. I also have great interest in art and art history. My most recent student was a visual learner, and so I incorporated artwork into my lesson plans.
